Industrial Development Engineer - Assembly and Preassembly
Ready to find true purpose in your work?
10% of Europe’s CO₂ emissions are caused by residential heating and energy bills are out of control. Aira is here to change that.
With our intelligent Aira Heat Pump at the heart, we’re making the switch to clean energy-tech easier and more affordable. Helping Europe turn off gas and slashing energy costs one home at a time.
Founded in 2022, and with 1000+ employees and counting, Aira is driving the clean energy revolution by providing homes with modern clean energy-tech solutions such as solar power, battery storage solutions and heat pumps. With a state-of-the-art production facility in Poland, an HQ in Stockholm, Sweden, and hubs across the UK, Germany and Italy, Aira is well on track to install clean energy-tech into 5 million homes by 2034.
About the role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Assembly Line Industrial Engineer to lead the design, optimization, and continuous improvement of our pre-assembly and main assembly lines in a dynamic, high-performance manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will bring proven experience from the HVAC, white goods, or automotive industries, with a strong emphasis on driving process efficiency, operational excellence, safety, ergonomics, and quality.
This is a hands-on engineering role that blends technical expertise with on-the-floor leadership, empowering production teams through process improvements, tool and fixture design, and targeted training to ensure world-class manufacturing standards.
What you'll be doing?
- Component Allocation: Assign components from the Manufacturing Bill of Materials (M-BOM) to specific pre-assembly and main assembly cells for optimal process flow and clarity.
- Line Balancing: Analyze and balance workloads across assembly cells to achieve target cycle times, eliminate bottlenecks, and maximize efficiency.
- Cell Design: Design and layout pre-assembly and main assembly cells, ensuring optimal use of space, lean material flow, and ergonomic workstations in our Digital twin.
- Tooling Development: Design and implement fixtures, jigs, and tools required for efficient, safe, and high-quality assembly operations.
- Intralogistics Design: Develop intralogistics tools (e.g., flow racks, kitting solutions, delivery carts) and define material flow processes to support timely and accurate component supply.
- Work Instruction Development: Create clear, standardized assembly instructions and visual aids for operators, ensuring consistent quality and ease of training.
- MES Integration: Collaborate with IT and automation teams to integrate assembly workflows and data into the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) for real-time tracking and process control.
- Safety, Ergonomics, and Quality Compliance: Ensure all cell designs and processes comply with safety standards, follow ergonomic best practices, and support first-time-right quality.
- Continuous Improvement: Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Kaizen, TPM, 5S) to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and drive performance across the assembly area.
- Training and Support: Provide on-the-floor training to operators and supervisors, ensuring proper use of tools, adherence to work instructions, and adoption of best practices.
What you’ll bring to the role?
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in assembly line design, optimization, and support in HVAC, white goods, or automotive industries.
- Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing, line balancing, ergonomics, and intralogistics.
- Proficiency in CAD software for 2D/3D cell and tooling design.
- Experience working with MES systems and digital manufacturing tools.
- Proven ability to lead continuous improvement projects and drive operational excellence.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively train and support factory personnel.
- Business proficiency in English (written and spoken)
Nice to have:
- Experience with digital twin, simulation tools, or factory digitalization projects.
- Knowledge of MES/WMS integration and traceability systems.
- Certifications in Lean Six Sigma or Project Management (e.g., PMP).
What is in it for you?
- Private medical care, group life insurance,
- Chance to turn a brown-field investment into a large-scale smart factory,
- Hands-on experience in a fast-growing European company,
- Development and growth in an entrepreneurial-minded environment,
- Dynamic, supportive, inclusive, solution-oriented culture, tackling challenges and driving meaningful solutions that make a positive impact on the world.
