Senior Industrial Development Engineer - Refrigeration Systems
Ready to find true purpose in your work?
10% of Europe’s CO₂ emissions are caused by residential heating and energy bills are out of control. Aira is here to change that.
With our intelligent Aira Heat Pump at the heart, we’re making the switch to clean energy-tech easier and more affordable. Helping Europe turn off gas and slashing energy costs one home at a time.
Founded in 2022, and with 1000+ employees and counting, Aira is driving the clean energy revolution by providing homes with modern clean energy-tech solutions such as solar power, battery storage solutions and heat pumps. With a state-of-the-art production facility in Poland, an HQ in Stockholm, Sweden, and hubs across the UK, Germany and Italy, Aira is well on track to install clean energy-tech into 5 million homes by 2034.
About the role:
We are seeking an experienced and driven Industrial Development Engineer with deep expertise in refrigeration systems used in HVAC products. This role is critical to supporting the design and industrialization of refrigeration system assembly, preassembly, test stations, and quality control processes in our manufacturing operations.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in HVAC production, particularly in refrigeration circuit assembly, brazing, leak testing, vacuum and refrigerant charging, and end-of-line performance testing. You will play a key role in optimizing processes for efficiency, quality, and scalability, while ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
In addition to your engineering responsibilities, you will also lead the implementation of technologies as the Technical Project Manager within our assembly and manufacturing operations.
What you'll be doing?
- Design and develop assembly and preassembly processes for refrigeration systems, including:
- compressor units,
- heat exchangers (evaporators, condensers),
- tubing and fittings,
- brazing operations (torch brazing, induction brazing, and furnace brazing).
- Lead the design, implementation, and validation of automated and manual test stations for:
- leak testing (helium, nitrogen),
- vacuum and refrigerant charging,
- performance and functional testing of HVAC systems.
- Define and implement quality control procedures for refrigeration system assembly, ensuring zero leakage and optimal thermal performance.
- Collaborate with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, and Automation teams to industrialize new products and improve existing processes.
- Select and manage equipment suppliers for assembly tools, test benches, and refrigeration-specific machinery.
- Support root cause analysis and resolution of refrigeration-related quality issues during line trials and mass production.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards (e.g., PED, UL, CE, RoHS, F-Gas Regulations).
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives in refrigeration system manufacturing focused on OEE, quality, and cost efficiency.
What you’ll bring to the role?
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Refrigeration Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in refrigeration system assembly and testing within the HVAC or white goods industry.
- Strong knowledge of refrigeration circuits, brazing techniques, and refrigerant handling procedures.
- Experience with test equipment design, leak detection, and charging systems.
- Solid understanding of quality control methods and regulatory standards related to refrigeration systems.
- Familiarity with process design tools (2D/3D CAD), PFMEA, and control plans.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Business proficiency in English (written and spoken).
What is in it for you?
- Private medical care, group life insurance,
- Chance to turn a brown-field investment into a large-scale smart factory,
- Hands-on experience in a fast-growing European company,
- Development and growth in an entrepreneurial-minded environment,
- Dynamic, supportive, inclusive, solution-oriented culture, tackling challenges and driving meaningful solutions that make a positive impact on the world.
